Spring Break Top 5

We have been on Spring Break for the past week. Initially, I thought we would head out on a fun and exciting adventure someplace. Except I think that was my agenda, rather than my daughter, Katie’s, who’s the one on spring break. She had a big equestrian clinic she was invited to attend at the start of her Easter vacation. That’s when I realized…wait…this sweet girl of mine wants to do one thing on her spring break. Ride her horse and train. It’s what she lives for. So I threw my idea of taking a road trip somewhere off the beaten path out the window and gave my Katie the spring break reins. I let her decide where we should go and what we should do every day. And you know what? It’s been a very relaxing and enjoyable time off. Here are my Spring Break Top 5…..

  1. Watching my daughter, Katie, master jumping cross rails during her equestrian clinic. She did absolutely amazing! Plus, it was an incredibly gorgeous day.
  2. Going to Disneyland as a family on Easter Sunday. Here’s a little secret. Easter Sunday is a great day to do Disney. Everyone is either at church or celebrating the holiday with family. So getting on rides was a breeze. And the usual crowds were non-existent. Easter dinner, for us, was a fancy corn dog with a side of salty Lay’s potato chips. It was one of my most loved Easters to date.
  3. Having a girls day out at our beloved beach in Corona del Mar. Where we explored the tide pools and soaked up copious amounts of vitamin D. It was the perfect beach day. The weather was on-point. There was hardly anyone there. Leaving us feeling like we were on a deserted island somewhere exotic. On our way home, we stopped off at Sprinkles Cupcakes for a treat. It’s a post beach tradition, usually saved for summer. Making this an extra special trip to the coast. On our way home Katie said, “…that was a fun adventure today!” Music to my mama ears!
  4. Visiting Roger’s Gardens with my girls. Growing up, my mom always loved taking my big sister and I to this magical garden store in Newport Beach. Now, to take my own little ladies, is a dream come true. Katie is my resident plant lady. So we picked up a few succulents for her bedroom. I would love to go back before our Spring Break is over….it’s that unreal! Everything there is breathtakingly beautiful. It’s like visiting a botanical garden. I always leave inspired.
  5. Slow-to-start mornings…which are definitely the way I prefer to start each day. I love being able to quietly enjoy a warm cup of coffee. Read the news. Plan our summer adventures. Make special breakfasts for my three princesses. Sit and just be. I have picked my phone up less this week and made it a point to be more present. Ultimately, squeezing the most out of this spring break.

If I’m being honest, I’m little bummed Spring Break is coming to an end. But we really do have so much to look forward to! My son is coming home from college for the summer! He’ll be back in no time at all now. I can’t wait to see him! We only have twenty-one days of school left! Katie’s first BIG equestrian show in June. And few summer trips I know will be truly memorable. Spring Break always proves to be a bit of, “what’s to come” tease. It makes me long for summer. Let the countdown begin!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Lisa’s Favorites & Useless Fun Facts

Since this blog is still new, I thought it would be fun to share a little about myself. Who am I? What makes me, me? I want to feel like we are all friends here. Ultimately, I want you to feel like you personally know the person behind the words here on this page. I hope when you read, The Orange, you will be able to relate to the stories I share, on some level.

Now to jump into the good stuff……

Lisa’s Favorite Things I Use Daily {or almost daily}:

I linked the items below…in case you see anything you like. Please note: I don’t get an ounce of commission. Just sharing because I love these things so much! They’re life. 🙂
  1. Laura Mercier Almond Coconut Body Cream: My signature scent.
  2. Vince Blair Slip-ons: I walked 50 miles in London with these shoes on my feet and they never got sore! They feel more like slippers {once you break them in}.
  3. Nordstrom Blanket: I love to get cozy under a blanket all year long. Even in the summer when our house is subzero inside to combat the sizzling heat outside. I took this blanket with me to the hospital when I had our last baby. It came in handy for my husband while we waited through the night for our little princess to arrive.
  4. Guilty Pleasure: Brookside Chocolate Covered Acaí Berries-for those moments when I’m craving a little chocolate during the day.
  5. Anthropologie Volcano Candle: The best smelling candle ever. I love a sweet smelling home. Plus, I feel like candles create a warm and welcoming space for my family and friends.
  6. Black Cherry Merlot Hand Soap: I stock up on this soap-so we never run out! It smells divine.
  7. Raw Sugar Lemon Body Wash: Not only does it smell sooooooo freaking good….it’s from Target!
  8. True Religion Jeans: More specifically, the Jennie Curvy style are the most comfy pair of jeans I own. Like I could sleep in them. They are perfect for curvy ladies – like myself.

  • Most Embarrassing Moment: After a date to Nordstrom with my husband, we stood outside with lots of other holiday shoppers, waiting for the valet to bring our car around. When our car arrived, the valet opened the passenger door for me to get in. I tried to step off the curb, gracefully … and I need to add, with a full cup of Coke in my hand from our lunch at the café. Except I lost my footing and fell. It was the most fantastic fall! If all the holiday shoppers standing there watching could’ve given my fall a score-I would have received all 10’s. I’m certain of that. Like I didn’t just trip over my feet. I WENT DOWN HARD! And while I did, my drink flew threw the air. It landed inside our car and exploded everywhere! Shocked at my clumsiness, both my husband and the valet kindly came to my aid, lifting me carefully off the ground. The valet then found us some paper towels so we could clean up our soda soaked car. We quickly wiped things down. I hopped into the car, shut my door, and nicely asked my hubby to head home. I was mortified and just wanted to hide away. For the longest time, I was so embarrassed every time I returned to that Nordstrom to shop. Thankfully, I can just laugh about it now.

Favorite Things … Easter Bunny Version

Easter is that one holiday everyone rejoices over. It falls in Spring. When trees and flowers are blossoming beautiful, fragrant buds. The days are getting welcomingly warmer. And summer is on the horizon. Plus, it’s filled with treasured family traditions…like dying eggs vibrant colors, endless Easter egg hunts and festive baskets overflowing with all sorts of goodies.

In my book, Easter baskets are truly one of the most fun gifts to put together. The cool part…the Easter Bunny can choose to either keep them super simple or go all out and get crazy elaborate. Growing up my basket was basically filled with nothing but candy…and lots of it. Chocolate bunnies, Brach’s jelly beans, yellow marshmallow peep bunnies, See’s Candy chocolate eggs and Cadbury eggs. Thankfully, I just ate a little at a time. Avoiding any chance of falling into a deep sugar coma. Now that I am a mom, there’s no way I am going to allow the Easter Bunny to just fill my kid’s baskets with sugary treats. Apparently, the Easter Bunny of the 70s and early 80s had a BIG sweet tooth {atleast at my house}. But times have changed. It’s 2019 and the Easter Bunny is more about filling baskets with thoughtful little gifts for our baby chicks.

Having children of my own that span from toddler to adulthood … I have included Easter basket ideas that cover all age ranges. Yes, the Easter Bunny delivers baskets to everyone in our family. Even mom and dad. No one gets left out!

I hope you find these lists helpful. I have broken them down by what stores they are from. Apparently, the Easter Bunny has some favorite places he likes to find unique trinkets at for his carefully thought out baskets.

Before I share those….here’s a quick list of no fail, go-to items you can pretty much find anywhere-mostly for the younger crowd:

  1. Bubbles
  2. Mini Kites
  3. Sidewalk Chalk
  4. Coloring Books
  5. Crayons/Markers/Fun Pens or Colored Pencils
  6. Sketch Books

  9. Beach Toys
  10. Playdough
  11. Nerf Gun

  13. Flip flops
  14. Beach Towel
  15. Beach/Pool Toys

  7. Neon Rainbow Micro Streamers…Add these to a scooter! Bummer! The link to this is also not working. I would check the Maisonette website if you are interested in any of the items shown here that I couldn’t link at the time of publication. It might be that it is just having technical difficulties. Oh, for the love of technology.

Theses websites have countless cute things. It was so hard choosing items to feature. I hope you find something here that will help make your Easter celebration extra special this year. Happy Easter! Oh! Don’t forget to tuck in a chocolate Easter bunny!

Gift Giving is my Jam

There is nothing I love more than giving people gifts. The entire process is incredibly fun and satisfying for me. Hunting for that perfect present, finding fitting wrapping paper for the occasion & tying a colorful bow around it, is like a sport, in my book. A sport I’d like to gold medal in, if that was even possible.

Making people happy is what I live for. I have taken personality test after personality test and they all yield the same results….I am a people pleaser and a helper. For that reason, I think it’s important to note, that for me, gift giving is not about money, prestige or anything else. It’s all done with the hope and prayer it will brighten another’s day. Put a smile on their face. Help make them feel genuinely special.

I share this, because as I celebrate the launch of this blog, there will be gifts. Think the Ellen Show during the holidays or Oprah Winfrey’s Favorite Things episodes back in the day. Those are always such exciting shows to watch-the audience going completely WILD more than entertaining. I hope my audience, YOU all, get just as excited! Of course the gifts won’t be as grandiose, but still things I hope you feel like jumping up and down over.

I have wanted to start this blog for almost three years now. The idea of blogging was born when I sat in my dad’s memorial service, almost three years ago. As several loved ones shared poems and creative stories my father had penned, I realized I had inherited my passion for stringing words together from him. I wanted to continue writing in his honor and memory. I have seriously thought about doing this every day since his funeral. It was more than time to put my idea into action. So here I am doing the blogging thing, once again. I had a blog about five years ago. One my dad read faithfully. He was my biggest fan and would always tell me how much he enjoyed what I had written. This is for you, Dad.

Squeezing the Most Out of Life-means we will be celebrating the little things and the big things together, here, at The Orange.

This is only the beginning.
